Jesus’ Genealogy and the Tribes of Israel [Interactive]

When I created Mapping God’s Bloodline, I had no idea what a turning point it would be for this website.  Until then, few had visited the site.  Once a few influential people shared it on social media, I discovered how visualization could turn a boring, tedious subject into something people find highly engaging. This experience of creating a “network” of parental relationships in the Bible and seeing the overwhelmingly positive response lit a spark which turned my attention in very different directions.

Today, I’m announcing the next step along this path.  Mapping God’s Bloodline is now a dynamic experience which highlights a person’s full lineage and gives important details about that person’s life (if known), such as: birth and death dates/locations, siblings, spouses, parents, and children.  Where applicable, a person’s membership in one of the tribes of Israel or Jesus’ genealogy is also listed.  You can access this new tool here.

Here are a few tips on how to use it:

  • Start by typing the name of someone you want to learn about int he box at the top-right (note: not every person in the Bible is shown, only those whose lineage can be traced all the way back to Adam and Eve.)
  • Use the zoom controls on the left to view the full lineage of the person you’ve selected.
  • Click the person’s name in the “map” area to select and center on that person or to clear your selection.
  • Use mouse controls to navigate faster: double-click to zoom in, mouse wheel to zoom in/out, click and drag to pan.
  • To start over, use the reset button below the zoom controls.
